Line App is so Popular!

In the United States, Facebook is the most popular social networking service (SNS) that almost everyone uses. My mom, dad, sisters, distant relatives, teachers and other people surrounding me all use Facebook. It is actually harder for me to find people who DO NOT use Facebook!

However in Japan, although Facebook is becoming more popular than before, there is another communication app that is even more popular than Facebook!! This FREE app is called LINE, which allows free phone calls and messaging as long as you are connected to the Internet.

You can do many things on Line. Not only can you communicate with your friends, you can also update your status on your timeline, buy cute stickers and themes, change your profile picture, listen to music, find a part time job, read news articles, call a taxi, and play games to collect coins!!!

What I feel is the biggest difference with Line compared to other SNS apps such as Facebook is the wide variety of stamp and emoji’s it offers. There are often stamps of popular cartoon characters, anime, actors, etc. The different kinds of stamps makes our communication through LINE much more entertaining! The other day, I was communicating with my friends just by stamps alone.

If you come to Japan and meet some people here, one of the frequent questions you get is “Do you have LINE!” You can exchange each others LINE by sharing your LINE ID, QR code, and shaking your phone.

If you would like to keep up with the current trend in Japan, downloading LINE is a great first step!!
