For those who want to meet real Geisha but don’t want to break the bank, Gion corner is the best place to go according to JNTO.
If you don’t want to spend money at all, you can still go to Gion. If you are lucky, you might come across some of them as they are leaving the tea house to go to work.
In my previous blog, I explained the different between Maiko and Geiko (Geisha). Maiko is the Geisha apprentice, as called in Kyoto dialect. They wear white powder make-up and red lipstick until the training period is over.
Usually, these tea houses don’t accept new guests with no reference from other clients so it was very difficult if you want to meet and talk with the real Maiko.
However, every summer, the N Shinmonsho rooftop beer garden in Kyoto Gion is opened and only this time, Maiko-san will make an appearance.
It’s such an unique opportunity to hang out with Maiko-san!!
